This year’s Great British Bake Off final saw Giuseppe Dell’Anno crowned the 2021 winner.

On Tuesday 23rd November Giuseppe, 45, won The Great British Bake Off 2021; becoming the first Italian baker to ever win the competition. After wowing judges and fellow contestants alike week after week with his incredible baking, it was no surprise to viewers at home when he took The Bake Off crown. Over the course of the competition, Giuseppe won star baker twice, as well as earning two of the coveted Paul Hollywood handshakes. From a reversi board game in biscuit week's 3D showstopper challenge, to his ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ sculpture in cake week, Giuseppe proved there was nothing he couldn’t handle.

Joining him in this year’s final were: sales manager Chigs from Leicester, who stunned viewers when he stated that he had only been baking since the start of lockdown; and client relationship manager Crystelle from London, who highlighted her Portugese-Goan background in the amazing flavours she featured in all her bakes. They were joined by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, as well as presenters Noel Fieldings and Matt Lucas.

Giuseppe was born in Italy, but was living in Bristol with his wife and three sons before he joined the competition. His passion for food, and especially classical Italian flavours, was evident from week one through his interesting takes on dishes; as well as in his dream to raise his sons on homemade food made with love. His food dream was inspired by his father, who was also a passionate baker and professional chef while Giuseppe was growing up. Today, he is helping Giuseppe to write a cookbook in order to ensure his beloved family recipes aren’t lost to time.

The Bake Off final had Giuseppe taking on a carrot cake signature, where he wowed the judges with his Italian spin on the beloved classic. Then a Belgian bun technical; Giuseppe’s were unfortunately overcooked, but he earned praise from the judges for his flavours nonetheless. Finally, in the showstopper, the finalists were tasked with creating a ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ themed bake, featuring four different baking disciplines.

Bake Off viewers from all over were pleased with Giuseppe's worthy win, and we’re all looking forward to seeing what he’ll do next in his baking journey.
