Did you know that 81 pounds of clothing is thrown away per year and 700 gallons of water is used to produced one t-shirt? It’s time we start shopping sustainably for good!

Preloved Kilo is a company which was established in 2016 and remains one of the most popular kilo sales in London. It offers vintage, second-hand clothes to many buyers and it costs £15 per kilo of clothes.

This company has been running for four years, and they have hosted over 300 events from Dundee all the way to London, Vauxhall! Preloved Kilo is the UK’s biggest kilo sale and they have created many partnerships over the years where people are able to buy their clothes. There are also a number of pop up shops available for you to visit and they travel to two different cities each and every weekend! If you are not able to visit one of the pop up shops, you can buy items from their online shop which have a wide range of stock for you to choose from, when buying from the online shop you can purchase 1kg mystery boxes and 5kg+ wholesale boxes which are handpicked by the company’s head buyer.

Sustainable fashion is becoming more mainstream and people are beginning to change their shopping habits by using these methods instead of buying new clothes regularly which in turn is now helping the planet by reducing their carbon footprint. People are encouraged to continue to shop sustainably because they contain eco-friendly fabrics which are soft, strong and durable. Buying environmentally friendly clothes ensures that you won’t have to continue buying new clothes continuously.

Upon my arrival to the Vauxhall Preloved Kilo sale, I asked one of the customers attending named Kaila what she thought about the event. She said ‘I was impressed to find large selection of clothes and you can find hidden treasures. It was a nicely organised event and the staff were helpful.’ She explained how she would ‘recommend this event for charity shop lovers’ and she had an ‘overall good experience.’ I asked her if there was one thing that she would change about the event and she replied ‘there should be a wider range of accessories for people to choose from.’

I was able to purchase a few finds and would definitely recommend it as you are able to find items that you wouldn’t usually find in high street shops. By shopping from Preloved Kilo you are able to reduce your carbon footprint and have new clothes in your wardrobe which are eco-friendly. The thought of second-hand clothing may put some people off, but nearly all the clothes I found were in perfect condition and can easily be replaced if there is a thread loose or button missing. Preloved Kilo is just one of the many companies around the UK which provide good quality, second-hand goods you can buy which are one step closer in solving the issue of climate change.
