London is the most expensive place to find love in the UK - does that come as a surprise?

New research shows that the total average cost for a date night in London is more than £100 - making it a seriously pricey city for love.

This is compared with an average of £72.34 in Reading - the UK's cheapest city for dating.

London had the highest cost for every aspect of a night out coming out as a £103.97 total, followed in close second by Oxford at £83.96.

The research showed that London's average cost for two cinema tickets is £27, a pint of beer is £6.11 and one cocktail is a whopping £12.

This is in addition to an averaging £24.86 five mile taxi fare and a meal for two coming in at £34.

So, dating in London appears to be quite the investment.

Edinburgh came up as the third most expensive city for couples, with Cambridge, Brighton, Nottingham and Southampton following after.

At the other end of the scale, Manchester and Bristol follow closely behind Reading as being the cheapest.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for Cosmetify, who conducted the research, said: “After spending so long being unable to enjoy a night out with a partner, people can finally have a date night again.

"Couples in Kingston upon Hull can enjoy the fact that they are getting good value for money compared to the rest of the UK.

"Meanwhile Londoners might face more awkward questions about splitting the bill, given how high the cost of a date is in the capital.”
