Many people that live abroad like to stay in touch with their culture, but finding a way to do so is hard on a daily basis. Luckily we can find theaters around us that can help
POSK, a Polish theatre in Hammersmith which opened in 1974 it is a place where many exhibitions, plays, meetings and concerts take place. It has been driven since opening by the slogan "for the benefit of Poland and free Poles".
I was able to go there ,recently, to watch a play called The Morality of Mrs. Dulska (Moralność pani Dulskiej). It is a play about a family from 1910 and how any problems should be solved in the four walls of our homes, to avoid bringing shame to the family name. I do not want to give away the plot, I recommend you to go, watch it yourself ! The performance was so good that I forgot that I was just watching it. I got consumed by not only the Polish actors who did a great job but by the scenery and costumes. It tackled problems that we can find in daily life although it was written almost 100 year ago.
If it wasn’t for the POSK theatre I would not even know that this great polish classic written by Gabierla Zapolska even existed. However this play is one of many that we are able to watch and explore. On the POSK website there are many other events that you are available to attend. To add to this they are not expensive and enjoyable no matter the age. It is also a marvelous way for the young to not forget about their culture and traditions. I truly recommend visiting POSK to any Polish person that wants to feel home away from home. In the theatre there is a library with many Polish books and a cafe serving Polish goods.
