Toys in need of new homes have been welcomed by children from London living in relative poverty.

With 38 per cent of children in the capital living in relative poverty, a campagin was launched to encourage Londoners to dig deep and help old toys find a new home with the children who need them most.

A self-storage company, Attic Self Storage spent September collecting unwantedtoys from designated drop-off points at four branches including their Harrow store.

With the final collections complete- donations have surpassed the initial target of 100 toys- the company received a total of 1,000 toys.

Attic Self Storage said: “We were extremely impressed by the Harrow community’s generosity throughout the campaign.

“The community made a significant contribution to the total donation and we were extremely impressed by the quality of the toys we received.

“We’re proud to be part of such a caring and generous community.”

The donations have been taken to children’s charity The Toy Project, which has recently attracted donations from the likes of This Morning presenter Rochelle Humes and Celebrity TV Chef Gok Wan.

Over the past year, The Toy Project delivered toys to hospital wards, children of NHS workers, children with families shielding at home and families living in hostels.

CEO of Attic Self Storage Frederic de Ryckman de Betz comments: “We wanted to create an initiative to make it as easy as possible for families to donate locally and make a difference.

“Given the success that we have seen with this campaign, we will definitely be considering what more we can do."
