Less than a month ago, Orpington High Street welcomed the arrival of new tuition centre Ambitious Learning, which made its mark within the Bromley community. Even during the coronavirus outbreak, the tuition was determined to assist students throughout the rigorous 11+ programme.

Director Ashima Mohan began the institution 6-7 years ago, preparing eager candidates for 7+, 11+ and 13+ entrance exams ’at classes in Bromley High School and Newstead Grammar School’. Her passion for working with kids aroused as she was a ‘ part-time TA doing supply work in various schools’. With a small group of willing secondary school students from Newstead Grammar school, Ambitious Learning guided children to ascertain their desired schools.

Unfortunately, the Covid pandemic halted all further growth development, forcing Ambitious Learning to resort to online tuition. Due to ‘ the high demand of students in the Bromley and Orpington area’ Ashima said, ‘it was better to open a centre as a meeting point for all children to collectively learn together’. She described the strenuous tasks and difficulty as it took 2 months for the centre to reopen and continue its pious work.

Many secondary students who teach at the centre are happy to ‘lend help to those who need it’ one girl states. She went on to explain how the opportunity ‘took her out of her comfort zone but established confidence inside of her’. A parent whose child attends the centre also echoed the gratitude.  "ALT 11+ is a great way for children to practice their 11+ in an educational environment. Here children will have all the abilities they need to pass the 11+. Everyone meets new friends and children get the confidence to go and do the test without being anxious." Jeevika’s parents said.

Ambitious Learning plans to expand further in order to help more children. Ashima said that ‘11+ is not about being clever but setting firm foundations for the child’s future.’ Their work has already proven great with a 90% pass rate for all students attending the centre this year. One of her best success stories was in September,  when a student, who was rejected from tuitions for not meeting up the standard, came to the Ambitious Learning Centre and worked hard,  passing the arduous St. Olaves entrance exams. Despite existing in Orpington for a month, Ambitious Learning looks to have a bright future.
