Haven House Children’s Hospice in Woodford has been highly commended at the Royal College of Nursing awards for their commitment to care during the pandemic.

More than 500 applications entered the fifteen award categories- Haven House made one of the 79 finalists.

During the pandemic the hospice the team worked to discharge children from hospital to reunite families and offered other teams their help in responding to emergency requests.

As many families shielded, Haven House delivered a package of support including music therapy, counselling, therapeutic yoga, play and even physiotherapy.

One hospice mum said: “When all doors were closing, Haven House opened theirs.”

The commendation was announced at a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, October 12 with special guests Kate Garraway, Emilia Clarke, Joanne Bosanquet and Pat Cullen.

Richard Penney, Interim CEO at Haven House, said: “I’d like to congratulate the team on this incredible achievement.

The children and families we have supported over the last 18 months have faced the most extraordinary challenges and the team have excelled in their response to all that they have had to manage in very difficult circumstances.”
