Crews confirmed on arrival that around 30 per cent of the building, which measures roughly 12 metres by 10 metres, was alight.
The fire was extinguished by 5.42pm.
Images from the scene show a burnt and destroyed building at the former golfing site.
Residents took to Facebook to post about their concern.
One said: “I think that CCTV may be required.”
A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said: “We believe this fire was caused deliberately.”
