THE number of coronavirus cases in Epping Forest increased by 45, official figures show.

NHS data reveals how 16,254 people had tested positive for the virus in Epping Forest on Tuesday, up from 16,209 on Monday.

The rate of infection in Epping Forest now stands at 12,297 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the England average of 10,094.

However, there were no new coronavirus deaths recorded in Epping Forest.

The figures show 377 people had died in the area by Tuesday.

It means there have been two deaths in the past week, which is the same as the previous week.

The figures also show nearly three-quarters of people in Epping Forest have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, 80,994 people had received both jabs by Monday and 71 per cent of those are aged 18 and over.

Across England, 77 per cent of people aged 16 and above had received a second dose of the jab.

Unlike at local level, the national rate was calculated using mid-2020 population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
