A Harlow teen has been arrested after two men suffered serious injuries in a homophobic assault.

The incident occurred in the Waitrose car park, in Northgate End, in Bishop’s Stortford during the early hours of Sunday 8 August.

Two men sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack.

Police say extensive enquiries have been carried out by the East Herts Local Crime Unit and two men were subsequently arrested on suspicion of GBH yesterday morning (Wednesday 18 August).

They are a 19-year-old man from Bishop’s Stortford and an 18-year-old man from Harlow.

Both remain in police custody at this time.

A 17-year-old girl has also been interviewed by police in connection with the incident.

Detective Sergeant Zoe Maddison, from the East Herts Local Crime Unit, said: “Our investigations are continuing at this time and we continue to work through a number of positive leads.

“It’s clear the incident has caused a lot of shock and upset within the local community and I would like to thank people for the support they have shown to the victims and the assistance they have given to police.

“We are still keen to hear from anyone else who may have information about what happened. If you can help and have not yet spoken to police, please contact us.”

She added: “I want to make it absolutely clear that hate crime of any kind will not be tolerated. We will do everything we can to support victims and bring offenders to justice. We have specialist officers on hand to provide advice, so if you have been affected, please get in touch.”
