The Orchard Theatre in Dartford has suffered a comical mishap after an order for some curly 'Frank-N-Furter' wigs saw them end up with 52 cans of hot dogs.

The Dartford theatre will reopen its doors later this month for a production of the classic rock'n'roll musical The Rocky Horror Show.

And busy preparing to welcome back customers, theatre staff ordered a number of black, curly souvenir "Frank-N-Furter" wigs for audience members, inspired by the musical's psychotic scientist.

But the company were instead met with a surprising 52 cans of frankfurter hot dog sausages in a debacle now nicknamed 'Frank n' Gate'.

The theatre released a video showing staff behind the scenes opening up merchandise and prop shipments as they gear up to open to the audiences later in August.

In the video, theatre worker Kay Hadley comes across some newly delivered boxes labelled Frank'n'furters.

Her surprise is caught on camera as the employees open up boxes containing a total of 416 hot dog sausages with not a wig in site.

The behind-the-scenes video revealed that the theatre had ordered the wigs from the same supplier they get their party food and supplies from, and the hot dogs had been sent due to a mistake, a typo or a miscommunication.

Aware of the amusing nature of their mistake, the staff said they didn't know what to do with the food.

Despite initially remarking that they had "no idea what to do with them," the surplus hot dogs will now be donated to local foodbanks.

Theatre director Lorna Stawson said, "Once we saw suggestions about donating to local food banks, we instantly recognized that there is still a need for donations to food banks families in the community are still struggling."

The Orchard Theatre reopens its doors on August 31 with a production of Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show after it's last visit in 2019 as part of a worldwide tour. Click here to check out the Dartford theatre's events.
