The photo above from 1888 shows Jones Forge, locally known as the Smithy, in Chingford.

It was operating from 1867 to around 1939 when, at that time, they were servicing motor cars and providing fuel.

There were stables at the back of the forge that used to house horses for the Fire Brigade. But they were also used for Jones’s cab service and often seen at Chingford Station.

The buildings were replaced in the late 1930s by number 35 and 37 Station Road.
