A Erith resident has complained after the outside of her block of flats flooded, with a slow response causing damage to her apartment and keeping her family up at night.

Maria Neto, 37, said the outside of Applegarth House saw a large amount of water build up on Wednesday, July 28, after a pipe burst.

And she said Orbit Housing had taken "far too long" to deal with the issue, resulting in damage across her flat.

Orbit Housing said they have now dealt with the situation and were "aware" of other issues at the property.

Maria said the flooding had sat there for five days, affecting several flats before it was eventually pumped out on August 2.

"I've been calling Orbit every day - Thames Water said it wasn't to do with them as it was private property.

"The flooding was gotten inside my flat. My corridor is flooded, and my sitting room, bedroom and kid's room have water in them."

"It's been a horrible nightmare week. I haven't been able to sleep from the worry, and you can hear the water seeping and dripping, so neither me or my kids have properly slept."

Maria said it was "too late" from Orbit Housing - "nothing got done for so long."

"I'm so tired of it all, it's very frustrating."

The Erith resident said there had been other long-standing issues with mould, damp and mice affecting Applegarth House which were yet o be resolved.

A spokesperson for Orbit said: “We were made aware of external flooding issues at Applegarth House on 28 July and consequently contacted the building’s subcontractor to perform an inspection the next day.

"Following the inspection, it was determined a mains water pipe was leaking to the front of the building which would require the water supply to the building to be turned off in order to complete the repair. The subcontractor returned on 2 August and carried out these works.

“We are also aware of other issues affecting some our customers at Applegarth House. Representatives from Orbit and our subcontractor visited the building on 8 July to liaise with customers and enquire about any maintenance/repairs that are needed at the building which we are currently addressing.

"We ask our customers to ensure all repair requests are made through our Customer Contact Centre, with some having previously been raised informally at Applegarth House.”
