An injunction banning further work to prepare a green belt field in Halstead for a traveller site has been extended for six months.

Bromley Council initially sought the order in June, covering land at the junction of Sevenoaks Road and Wheatsheaf Hill, after the area was cleared of vegetation, making way for six mobile homes.

After being granted for a month, the injunction was extended in July and then again by a court yesterday, this time for six months.

Laura Trott, Conservative MP for Sevenoaks, raised the issue with Bromley Council over a series of months, which she described as a "flagrant breach" of planning rules.

The land lies on the edge of Sevenoaks, but is under the jurisdiction of Bromley.

Development on Green Belt land is only permitted in specific circumstances, and planning permission must be sought.

Breaching the order could result in the defendant being found guilty of contempt of court, which could result in prison or a fine.

A Bromley Council spokesperson said: “It is positive news that the courts have again extended the injunction.

“This continues to be a serious legal matter, which is complex in nature, with public interest as well.

“The council remains committed to taking action where needed, in a methodical way and within the law, to protect green belt land, which remains a long-stated objective.

“We will therefore continue to monitor activity at the site and gather evidence where appropriate.”

The injunction forbids the defendant from stationing mobile homes, caravans, buildings structures or fences, whether portable or otherwise.

It further bans "using or permitting the use of the six mobile homes present for residential purposes without the express grant of planning permission."

Any further works to prepare the land for the stationing of mobile homes or caravans is also prohibited, as is any development on the site, including the laying of hardcore and creation of hardstandings and access roads.
