A person has been hit by a train between Balham and Clapham junction.

Southern Rail reported the incident at around 10.10am and said that all lines are blocked between the stations while emergency services deal with the incident.

It tweeted: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Balham and Clapham Junction.

“All are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident.

“Service information will follow.”

The company has since pleaded with people to consider delaying travelling until later today.

It added that if travelling now is a necessity, it is likely to take “considerably longer” than usual – giving an approximation of 30-60 minutes longer in travel time.

Southern Rail said that it is aware of people currently on trains between the two main affected stations and that it is working to get them moving “as soon as possible”.

Tickets are being accepted via any reasonable route on the Thameslink, Southeastern railway, Southwestern railway, the London Underground, Overground and London buses.

Southern Rail has also issued a map which shows the delayed routes in red.
