Firefighters freed an elderly man who became trapped after he was hit by a lorry in West Wickham.

The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, was released after being knocked down by a HGV at around 3.30pm yesterday.

Ambulance services, first on the scene, rushed him to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The lorry driver stopped at the scene. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Two engines from Bromley and Woodside stations attended, alongside a rescue unit from Wimbledon.

Road closures were put into place along West Wickham High Street between Ravenswood and Sherwood Way.
