A road in Bracknell will be closed until the end of next week after a burst water main caused damage to the road surface.

Crowthorne Road is closed in both directions between its junctions of Rectory Lane and Reeds Hill.

According to AA Traffic, the closure was first reported at 9.34am today (Thursday, July 22).

Traffic is currently coping well around the closure, minor delays are being reported on the approach at Reed’s Hill and on the roundabout at the junction of Rectory Lane.

Drivers can follow a diversion utilising the remaining parts of Crowthorne Road, Reeds Hill and Redvers Road to get to their destinations.

The traffic website One Network says that South East Water is responsible for piping in the road.

A distribution manager for South East Water apologised for the delays and said that works on the road should be finished by the end of the day.

Paul Mann, Distribution Manager for South East Water said: "We’re sorry for any disruption caused by the closure of Crowthorne Road, Bracknell following a burst on a six-inch diameter water main.

"Due to the location of the burst within the carriageway and for the safety of the public and our staff, we have had to close Crowthorne Road to through traffic while we carry out the emergency repair.

"We anticipate repairs to the water main will be complete by the end of today (22 July) however, there has been some damage to the carriageway which will take longer to reinstate.

"Our teams will work as quickly and safely as possible to return the road to its original state before reopening which we expect to be at the end of next week.

"A clearly signed diversion route has been agreed with Bracknell Forest Council and will be in place for the duration of the work.

"Once again we’re really sorry for any disruption this causes and we’d like to thank the local community and road users for their patience while we carry out this emergency work.

"With 9,000 miles of pipeline hidden underground and one million joints to manage, there are times when leaks and bursts will inevitably occur. When they do we work hard to repair them as quickly as possible.
