More distressing images have emerged of foxes found dead and fatally injured at Foots Cray Meadows in Bexley.

The Fox Project, a charity that supports caring for and rehabilitating foxes, told News Shopper that a total of five had now been found, left either dead or severely hurt at the Bexley woodland.

The animals were found over two nights last week (July 6 and July 9).

A spokesperson for the Fox Project said that the animals "appear to have been beaten and, in one case, there are suspicions of poisoning," adding: "Two of the animals were found to be still alive by a wildlife ambulance team from The Fox Project and had subsequently to be euthanised due to the severity of their condition.

"There is clearly an additional concern with any poisoning aspect in that, if poison has been placed in the park, then domestic dogs and other species might as easily have picked this up, therefore the culprit needs to be identified and apprehended before further incidents occur."

As News Shopper reported previously, Metropolitan Police in Bexley are now investigating the issue.

A spokesperson for the borough police service urged anyone with information to contact them by calling 101 and quoting reference number ref 4276/08Jul.
