A NEW jobcentre has opened in Morden in a bid to help jobseekers access more support and opportunities.

The temporary centre, located in Central Road, opened its doors on July 9 as part of the governments Plan for Jobs.

The Jobcentre spans three floors and is within walking distance to Morden Tube Station.

The site already has a growing team of 55 Work Coaches, some of whom recently joined the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP), as part of a recruitment drive to hire 13,500 new Work Coaches across the country.

Each new Work Coach will help residents looking for work in the Merton area with one-on-one tailored support to find their next role.

Mims Davies MP, Minister for Employment said: “We know this has been a challenging time for many people and that’s why we’re boosting our DWP Jobcentre support in every community of the UK, including here in South London.

“Every customer benefits from having a dedicated Work Coach.

"They know the local jobs market and work with local businesses to match jobseekers to the latest opportunities.

“It’s brilliant to see our Plan for Jobs in action, from Kickstart to Sector Based Work Academy Programmes, our Work Coaches are there to help people thrive and progress in work.”

The Grange Jobcentre Plus is one of the new temporary sites announced by the Department for Work and Pensions earlier this year, building on the existing 639 Jobcentres across the UK.

Shereece Arnold, a new recruits at The Grange Jobcentre Plus, said: “I love being a Work Coach as I get to work with such a variety of customers.

"I enjoy building a rapport with them and most importantly assisting them to gain employment.”

Karen Tinklin is the Customer Service Lead overseeing the new site, bringing with her four years of DWP experience.

“I am so excited and proud to be part of this new Jobcentre Plus," she said.

This will give my team and I an incredible opportunity to help and assist Merton residents back into employment by equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to find their next role.”
