Martin Lewis has explained how Sainsbury's customers can get more Nectar card points.

In his latest Money Saving Expert newsletter, the savings expert explained how to boost your loyalty points easily.

He said: "Nectar points boost if you connect your payment plastic to your account, for example 20 points (10p) per £1 at Costa.

"It's a new reward route from the loyalty points scheme."

The website later explains how Nectar launched a new scheme that allows you to link your account to a debit or credit card.

From there you can earn a bonus where you can spend on selected partners, like Costa Coffee, Just Eat and Interflora.

The MSE website added: "You'll need to be comfortable sharing your bank data though and must actively opt in to offers.

"Normally Nectar card-holders earn points spending at Sainsbury's and partners such as ASOS, eBay and Esso.

"The amount you get varies – at Sainsbury's it's usually one point per £1 spent. Nectar points can then be spent at Sainsbury's."

Nectar Connect works by using Open Banking where it lets you share your financial data with third parties.

You will have to give Nectar access to your data, then you can log into your online banking for it to work.

From here you will automatically collect points when paying by card, but don't use this as an excuse to overspend.

According to MSE, you won't need to do anything to claim the points as your spendings are tracked automatically.

The number of points you get with each partner varies, but if you spend £20 at Just Eat, you can bag an eye-watering 400 points.

Make sure to check the Offer Hub every so often, so you can see when promotions expire and you can activate new deals too.

Just remember if you take part in Nectar Connect, you will give the app access to your financial data.

Sainsbury's customers previously complainied about not be able to build up points as quickly as before.

The supermarket chain apologised to shoppers and said they are "personalising" Nectar card offers.

Sainsbury's said some customers may find when and how often they get their offers changes over time, they added.

The supermarket revamped the Nectar loyalty scheme in 2019 to give shoppers weekly, personalised bonus points based on what they usually buy in store.

But some customers have complained that they have not had any new deals in weeks.
