A photography exhibition will explore the ancient woodland of Epping Forest throughout the changing of the seasons.
The photo series 'Follow the Light: A Year in Epping Forest and Hollow Ponds’, featuring the work of Caro Jones, is on display at Orford House in Walthamstow Village from July to September.
In the extraordinary year of 2020, the forest and ponds bordering London and Essex provided Caro Jones with a place of tranquillity and calm amongst the chaos of the outside world, she says.
Wandering between aged oaks and fields of spiky yellow gorse, she was inspired to pursue her interest in photography and document the changing cycles of the seasons from the warm, dry spring to the chilly winter days in the woodland.
"The bright yellow gorse fell away to reveal prickly bushes, the trees were now bare and stark and the sun would set low in the winter afternoon," she said.
Caro has put a selection of her favourite images together in a photobook 'Follow the Light: A Year in Epping Forest and Hollow Ponds'.
Discovering the beauty of nature through photography has positively benefited her mental well-being and she says she hopes that people will find inspiration through her photographs of this special and unique place.
There will be an opening preview for the exhibition on Thursday, July 29, from 7pm to 9pm featuring a special performance by songstress Phoebe Coco.
Born in the Brecon Beacons, and now a part of London’s thriving scene, Phoebe Coco has recently released her debut album ‘My White Horse & I’ receiving high critical acclaim and has been played on BBC Radio 6 Music.
