The recent widening of the pavement on the west side of Epping High Street provides the opportunity to fill the gaps in the avenue of trees which runs from the Civic Offices to St John’s Church and beyond.
The existing trees are a delightful feature of the town, particularly in summer, but there is a large gap between Marks and Spencer and Starbucks without trees, which could now be filled.
In addition, there is space to plant one or two trees in the large paved area near the drinking fountain, and these, when mature, would provide welcome shade for people sitting there.
Such tree planting would be an appropriate way for Epping to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen next year, and the appearance of the town would be enhanced for many years to come.
