Young adults are being encouraged to get vaccinated at the Valley this weekend with the offer of free tickets to Charlton Athletic home games.

The first 1,000 people over the age of 18 to arrive for their pre-booked appointment on Saturday will claim a seat at a match next season.

The stadium is being tranformed into a mass vaccination centre for the second weekend running, with teams administering Pfizer to adults from Greenwich and beyond from 8am to 8pm.

All GP practices throughout the borough are supporting the event and many are delivering the vaccine on the day.

Cllr Danny Thorpe, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: “Getting vaccinated at our famous, local football stadium is a terrific opportunity – not only for those who desperately want to get vaccinated, but also footie fans with a chance to take selfies in the stand.

“As the government has announced that restrictions will be extended due to increasing infections, we need everyone to get vaccinated to beat this disease and get back to doing the things we love.”

Wayne Mumford, Charlton Athletic’s Commercial Director said: “We’re looking forward to hosting our second Vaccination At The Valley on Saturday.

“The event will give local people aged over 18 the opportunity to come to The Valley, get a picture pitchside and get the Pfizer vaccine.

“As a club we have a long history of excellent work in the local community and we’re pleased to be partnering with the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Greenwich Health and South East London Clinical Commissioning Group to support this important activity.”

“Royal Greenwich is seen at the forefront of innovation in getting residents vaccinated through our unique ‘Let’s talk about the vaccine’ programme reaching over 70,000 households to date and linking with pop-up vaccine clinics.

“In addition, working with local faith organisations, trusted faces and communities to increase vaccination take up and awareness of COVID-19."
