Watford’s new Ninja Warrior venue has backed a scheme helping local people with hidden disabilities.

The Woodside Leisure Centre venue, which officially opened this week, has thrown its weight behind Get Up and Go – a Watford-based service that aims to help young adults with learning disabilities get jobs.

Get Up and Go founder Gary O’Brien hailed the “amazing” Ninja Warrior centre after it agreed to hire two people he works with – Tom and Billy – who have joined the catering team.

“I’ve always tried my hardest to find them paid or voluntary jobs in their community to give them a sense of worth,” Gary added.

The 50-year-old also said he hopes Ninja Warrior’s support will encourage other local businesses to do the same.

Mike Davies, one of three business partners running the Watford venue, said: “I’m really looking forward to working with them – they are going to be a great addition to the team.

“I’ve noticed that people with learning difficulties make others smile because they don’t have all these inhibitions like the rest of us.

“Their ability to engage in conversation with everyone that they come across is so strong.”
