Charlton Athletic's stadium is to become a mass Covid-19 vaccination centre on Saturday, with the added incentive of 1,000 football tickets on offer to those attending to get their jab.

In a one-day special event in Greenwich, the Addicks are opening up their facilities to help more people get vaccinated against Covid-19, and to encourage locals to attend you can now wait for you jab pitch-side at The Valley.

The first 1,000 people to get vaccinated at The Valley will also receive a free ticket to a Charlton Athletic football game, with more prizes also on offer on the day.

This Is Local London:

The iconic south east London stadium has been open to locals for jabs since March, but will fully open their doors on Saturday, with people queueing around the pitch for their jab.

The initiative will allow attendees to take a selfie pitch-side and get a view of the Valley normally only experienced by professional footballers, whilst a "full programme of content" is planned on the big screen.

Danny Thorpe, London Councils Executive member for Health and Care and Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: “As the government has announced that restrictions will be extended due to increasing infections, we need everyone to get vaccinated to beat this disease and get back to doing the things we love.

"Getting vaccinated pitch-side at a famous football stadium will be a unique and memorable experience so please take advantage of this offer. It’s not too late to get vaccinated. We need you to help make sure this lockdown is the last.

This Is Local London:

"Boroughs across London are leading similar local initiatives in a bid to get as many people vaccinated as possible and ensure a return to the freedoms we all miss.”

The Royal Borough of Greenwich say they have teamed up with Charlton Athletic FC, South East London Clinical Commissioning Group and Greenwich Health GP Federation to arrange this mass-vaccination event to help get as many people protected as possible.

The event will run from 8am to 8pm on Saturday, June 19, as a one-day special mass vaccination offer.

There's no need to book as the event is drop-in, and if you already have a vaccination booked, you can still go if you cancel your old appointment.

The AstraZeneca vaccine will be on offer so anyone age 40 and above can just walk-in with no booking to receive a vaccination.

Vaccinations will take place inside in the North Stand Fans Bar. You will be directed on arrival, with queuing around the pitch where you'll also be able to take selfies! Listen out for prize announcements.

Wayne Mumford, Charlton Athletic’s Commercial Director, said: “Charlton has a long history of excellent work in the local community and we’re pleased to be joining forces with the Royal Borough of Greenwich council and South East London Clinical Commissioning Group on this important activity as we all work towards a return to some sort of normality.

"As well as offering a free ticket to the first 1,000 vaccinated on Saturday, we’ll have plenty going on at The Valley. Anyone attending will able to go pitchside, take part in a variety of competitions and enjoy a full programme of content on our big screen.”

Dr Krishna Subbarayan, GP and Governing Body Member NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group, said:

“Getting vaccinated is the best way to keep people safe and to help us all return to our normal lives. If you haven’t had your first dose and are over 40 come along to this great event on Saturday.”

If you have already booked a vaccination appointment, please continue with it. Or, if you wish to make use of The Valley offer, please cancel your appointment
