AN exhibition recognising the outstanding contribution of the Polish Air Force during World War Two was opened today (21) at the Battle of Britain Bunker Exhibition and Visitor Centre in Uxbridge.
Prof. Arkady Rzegocki, the Polish Ambassador and Cllr Sir Ray Puddifoot, former leader of Hillingdon Council, performed the opening ceremony. Also present was Uxbridge MP Boris Johnson.
During the war, Polish fighter squadrons joined air campaigns organised from RAF Uxbridge and squadrons were co-ordinated from the Battle of Britain Bunker.
Polish squadrons were stationed at RAF Northolt, while South Ruislip was chosen as the location of the Polish Air Force Memorial.
Professor Rzegocki said: “This is a great opportunity to reflect on the Polish-British spirit of camaraderie that binds us.”
The Battle of Britain Exhibition and Visitor Centre reopened to the public on Monday (17). Tickets need to be pre-booked.
