A man has been arrested following allegations of violence towards a car driver with an Israeli flag.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed a man is in police custody at a station in north London after being detained on suspicion of racially aggravated public disorder.

Police confirmed they were called at around 10am today (May 21) to Golders Green Road.

A video posted on social media shows one man being pinned down by a number of men in the street, including some from the Community Security Trust (CST) - a charity which exists to provide safety and security to the Jewish community.

In a statement, the CST said they had responded to an incident involving a car driver.

It read: "This morning in Golders Green, CST personnel stopped a man who they witnessed behaving violently and aggressively towards the driver of a car carrying an Israeli flag.

"They held the man, assisted by passers-by, and Shomrim personnel, until police came and arrested him.

"We thank our volunteers for their courage and dedication to protecting our community."

The Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at approximately 10am on Friday, 21 May to reports of an incident on Golders Green Road.

"A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public disorder at the scene. He has been taken to a police station in north London.

"A road closure was put in place that has since been reopened.

"Officers will be conducting high visibility reassurance patrols in the area."

Earlier in the morning, the Home Secretary Priti Patel was spotted outside a bakery in Temple Fortune, which is next door to Golders Green. She was pictured with members of the Jewish community and police officers.

Today's incident in Golders Green comes after a convoy of vehicles passed through north London draped in Palestinian flags last weekend.

A man was heard shouting from one of the vehicles "f*** the Jews" and called for Jewish daughters to be "raped".
