MORE than £10,000 was raised for the charity Hope for Southall Street Homeless in a staff initiative at developers Berkeley West Thames.
The 10/10/10 challenge tasked those taking part with raising £10,000 by travelling more than 10 million steps in 10 days.
A total of 78 Berkeley employees – including many of those working at the new Southall development The Green Quarter – answered the call, with some accumulating more than 100 miles.
The £11,400 collected was then rounded up by Berkeley to more than £20,000 which was split between its two charity partners, Hope for Southall Street Homeless and Birmingham-based St Basils.
Hope for Southall runs a night shelter in the town. Since beginning the partnership in 2017, Berkeley has raised more than £100,000 towards a full-time, complex needs case worker and the charity’s COVID-response outreach work.
Susan Cawley, from Hope for Southall Street Homeless, said: “I am not exaggerating when I say that fund-raising schemes such as this truly change lives.
"We can continue our work in Southall, which is all the more important considering the rise in homelessness during the pandemic.”
