TRAINS towards Brighton faced long delays this morning due to trespassers on the track.

Trespassers were first spotted shortly after 6am between Three Bridges and Haywards Heath, delaying trains into the city for about 15 minutes.

However, about half an hour later, all lines between the stations became blocked due to “another trespassing incident”.

A spokesman for Southern Rail: “ If you are currently on-board a train that has been at a stand in a station or just outside, please remain on-board the service and await further information from the driver.

“Trains are currently unable to run between Three Bridges and Haywards Heath this morning.

“If you are travelling this morning, you may need to use an alternative route to complete your journey.”

Tickets will be accepted with Metrobus, Brighton and Hove Buses and Southern & Thameslink.

The spokesman added: “Please allow an extra 20-25 minutes for your journey.

“We would recommend delaying travel where possible if you are looking to travel between Three Bridges and Haywards Heath/Brighton this morning.

“Rail replacement buses have been confirmed and are expected to be in place from 8am.

“These will run a shuttle service between Three Bridges, Balcombe and Haywards Heath.”

At 7.40am, the spokesman confirmed that a person had been found safe.

Services are running again, however people are advised to “allow plenty of extra time” when travelling.
