A policeman who battled in vain to save the life of a 17-year-old disabled knife victim laid flowers at the scene of his death in Sydenham.

Levi Ernest-Morrison was found lying in a pool of blood near his home in Sydenham on Saturday night and died at the scene despite efforts to save him.

His mum and stepdad, both carers, were among the first to arrive at the scene as their "loving" son faded away.

News Shopper:

Stepdad Chris visited the place where he was found, to look for a bouquet of flowers left by the officer who tried to save the teenager’s life.

In an emotional tribute, Levi's stepfather said: “He was a lovely, caring boy.

“And now we have to assist with his funeral.

“I was just looking for some of the flowers that were laid by one of the police officers because he really worked hard to resuscitate him. He came round to visit us afterwards.

“Levi has got autism spectrum disorder and it can be difficult for him to understand.

“When you are explaining things to him, you must break things down into small sections.

“But kids don’t know that and they just think he is like them.

“He was in a road traffic accident before in June 2019 so he had a foot drop. He had a lot of pins and braces on. He had a lot of bolts attached to him to help him to walk.

“He was on the back of a scooter and they took a fall.

“Again, I was one of the first ones at the scene then.

”This time apparently he was hit by a woman in a car. The police are piecing things together.

“They have arrested a woman, 36 years old. I don’t know what she was up to but they’ve arrested her on suspicion of murder.

“Apparently the autopsy came back with stab wounds to the groin and that’s how he passed away.

“He was a college student and he was studying construction.

“He knew a lot of young people and I think they laid candles for him.”

Throughout today, steady numbers of well wishes, relatives, children and friends visited the street where Levi tragically died.

The well liked teen was known among the community as a lovely, caring boy.

A note left with a floral tribute read: “Levi, I miss you already. Everything I do is for you. Love you millions, J.”
