PUPILS from 13 schools were invited by Northwood College for Girls to its first Inter-school Philosothon.

The virtual event brought together competitors aged 14-15, from a range of backgrounds and experiences, to explore two topics, justice and existentialism, through the works of Plato and Aldous Huxley.

Team members were scored by independent judges on the quality of their contributions and their ability to help others to contribute.

Those prepared to say controversial or disagreeable things scored particularly well as, by doing so, they highlighted core principles.

Sima (Year 10, Northwood College, third on right in our photograph) said: “It gave us all the opportunity to build our analytical, critical thinking and public speaking skills.”

The winning school was Northwood College, with Christs’ Hospital School in second place and joint third shared by Watford Boys and South Hampstead.
