The Kings Head Pub in Chingford appears on maps as early as 1782.
Being close to ‘The Green’, the pub had strong connections with Chingford’s administration and law for generations.
From 1805 to 1840 the Manorial Courts and Vestry meetings were held in the King's Head.
For many years, Chingford’s constables were seconded in from Waltham Abbey and had stabling at the pub, so it was fitting to erect the police station next door to the pub in 1887.
The village stocks are thought to have been near the pub and the lock-up was erected opposite in 1815.
On the left of the picture above you can see Pracy’s store. It was Chingford’s first post office from 1858.
