Greenwich's first pharmacy to become an official NHS Covid vaccination site has been praised and thanked for its "brilliant" work over the past month.

Woolwich Late Night Pharmacy have been working hard to provide uninterrupted face to face healthcare throughout the pandemic, and as of January 21 has been offering residents access to the coronavirus vaccine.

They were approached by NHS England to open for extended hours to provide round the clock vaccination services between 5am and 1am.

Beyond this, the team's senior clinical pharmacist Sobha Sharma has been producing videos promoting vaccine uptake in the Nepalese community in conjunction with NHS South East London.

In a recent Zoom meeting with the Mayor of Greenwich, Linda Bird, the work of the Woolwich Late Night Pharmacy was given praise for its "enormous success and contribution to the community."

This Is Local London:

Speaking to Sharma and the pharmacy's chairman Rajen Kandel, Ms Bird was vocal in her support for the site, expressing how she felt pharmacies are a valuable resource for the NHS as "highly trained healthcare professionals who the public have faith in."

Adding that pharmacies are "excellent providers of safe and efficient vaccination services," the Mayor praised the whole team.

Woolwich Late Night Pharmacy’s Superintendent Pharmacist Jignesh Mehta & the senior clinical Pharmacists have been working as vaccinators, who along with a dedicated admin team and two volunteers, have been running the clinic smoothly.

Mayor Linda Bird also assured Kandel and Sharma that she is working closely with the BAME communities to raise awareness of the Covid Vaccination, a mission that Woolwich Pharmacy fully supports.

The team are now planning to use this experience to apply for another Pharmacy-based covid vaccination centre in Greenwich.

The team shared their future plans to expand provision in the area with the Mayor, who confirmed that she is fully supportive of this and wished them the best of luck.

The Mayor concluded by thanking the team: “Thank you so much for your work supporting our community with your brilliant vaccine provision.”
