Boris Johnson has revealed England's route out of lockdown - but how many Bank Holidays are left in 2021? And what Covid rules will be in place?

The Prime Minister said a four-stage plan could see England’s coronavirus restrictions finally lifted by June 21.

And people are wondering how the national Bank Holidays of 2021 will align with the exit strategy.

There are seven Bank Holiday days left this year.

Two dates marking Easter celebrations will fall in April.

And another two will follow during May. There will be one Bank Holiday to look forward to in August.

And reaching the end of 2021, two Christmas Bank Holidays will fall in December.

These are the upcoming Bank Holiday dates along with which stage of Johnson's roadmap out of lockdown the date aligns with:

April

Friday, April 2 - Good Friday

Monday, April 5 - Easter Monday

By both Easter Bank Holidays, Step 1 of Johnson's roadmap out of lockdown, which will begin on March 8, will already be in place.

This includes the re-opening of schools.

Outdoor recreational activities between two people - for example sitting down for a coffee or picnic in the park - will once again be allowed.

We'll also be able to enjoy meeting outdoors with up to six people or two households, and will see the re-opening of outdoor sports facilities, and organised sport and travel outside of local areas will be allowed again.

All of which will have been introduced as part of Step 1 from March 29.

May

Monday, May 3 - Early May Bank Holiday

Monday, May 31 - Spring Bank Holiday

By both May Bank Holidays, the earliest possible date for Step 2 of Johnson's roadmap will have passed.

This means, by April 12, we could see the re-opening of non-essential retail, personal care establishments, outdoor hospitality venues and indoor leisure venues including gyms and swimming pools.

Self-contained holiday accommodation will also be permitted to re-open.

The earliest date Step 3 could fall on is May 17 - after the Early May Bank Holiday but in time for the Spring Bank Holiday on May 31.

In Step 3, most social contact rules outdoors will be lifted.

Six people or two households will be able to meet indoors and indoor hospitality and hotels will be open again.

August

Monday, August 31 - Summer Bank Holiday

By the August Bank Holiday, the earliest possible date for Step 4 of the government's roadmap out of lockdown - June 21 - will have passed.

In Step 4, all legal limits on social contact will be removed and the remaining closed sectors of the economy will hopefully re-open.

December

Monday, December 27 - Christmas Day (substitute day)

Tuesday, December 28 - Boxing Day (substitute day)

If all goes to plan, by December we should be able to enjoy the Christmas period without restrictions in place.
