An arrest has been made following an incident which shut a road near a synagogue.

Emergency services have been in The Riding in Golders Green this afternoon (February 2) after being called to a report of concern for safety at 12.28pm.

A suspect was found with a vehicle when officers arrived and is believed to have set fire to an object, Barnet MPS said on Twitter.

No members of the public or officers are believed to have been injured.

Footage shows a number of emergency vehicles at the scene this afternoon, with The Riding - where the Golders Green Beth Hamedrash Congregation is based - having been taped off by police.

One witness told Jewish News: There were lots of police of different varieties and a chopper going overheard. The road has been cordoned off from Ravenscroft to Be Kosher and we have seen riot police and numerous unmarked cars.”

The Community Security Trust said the “incident in Golders Green this afternoon appears NOT terror related.”

It added: “We thank the emergency services for their constant vigilance and work.”

Some roads have been closed off as a result of the incident, Barnet MPS said.

Police said a man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.
