Enfield and Haringey saw further steep falls in their seven-day coronavirus infection rates nearly one month into the national lockdown.

The latest data reveals Enfield recorded 360 new cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people in the seven days to January 27 – the 14th highest rate in London.

Haringey’s infection rate over the same period was 333 per 100,000 people – 18th out of the London boroughs.

Both boroughs saw their infection rates drop by around 40 per cent compared to the week to January 20. Earlier in the month, their rates were above 1,000 per 100,000 people.

Despite the falls, they remained above the UK average Covid-19 infection rate of 273 new cases per 100,000 people.

The worst-hit part of Enfield during the latest seven-day period was Ponders End South, which recorded 59 new cases of Covid-19 according to a government map of ‘middle layer super output areas’.

Other areas that were badly hit included Lower Edmonton North (56 cases), Broomfield Park (48) and Upper Edmonton East and Meridian Water (48).

The lowest cases were recorded in Grange Park (13) and Cockfosters and Hadley Wood (13).

Haringey’s worst-affected area was Tottenham Green East, with 43 cases. Scotch Estate (41 cases) and Harringay Warehouse District and Vartry (41) also saw high case numbers.

The lowest case numbers were recorded in Alexandra Park (6) and Highgate East (12).

The latest infection rate data is based on figures from Public Health England published on the Government’s online coronavirus dashboard. It is subject to slight variations, as the figures are continually updated.
