A fraudster who used dating apps and online dating sites to con women of thousands of pounds has been jailed.

Amir Tofangsazan, 33, of Norfolk Road in Barnet, has now been jailed for three years after appearing in custody at Wood Green Crown Court today (January 29).

The fraudster was originally sentenced to seven years and nine months in prison in May 2015 for 15 counts of fraud where he posed as a doctor or a barrister to woo unsuspecting women and con them.

During his sentence, he was moved to an open prison in 2018 and had access to a mobile phone which he used to con even more victims.

After being caught, he was then sentenced to another three years and was prohibited to access online dating services for ten years and was forced restrictions on his phone.

But three days after being conditionally released on November 4, 2019, he began to contact two women who were witnesses in his trial, under the name of Jason. Then in December he contacted an ex-girlfriend from a dating service, she knew him as Matt Fleming.

The fraudster continued to use the mobile phone registered with police to talk with even more women and used alias names and pictures that he used to set up dating profiles in the past.

He was arrested on July 15 for breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order on suspicion of fraud, he was charged the following day.

Tofangsazan pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court on November 17 to the following:

  • Count 1 - Breach of CBO on or before 20/01/2020 - access and or use of dating app Tinder;
  • Count 2 - Breach of CBO on or before 13/03/2020 - access and or use of dating app Bumble;
  • Count 3 - Breach of CBO on or before 15/07/2020 - Ownership/possession of second mobile phone;
  • Count 4 - Breach of CBO on or before 15/07/2020 - Ownership/possession of third mobile phone;
  • Count 5 - Breach of CBO on or before 15/07/2020 - Failed to notify ownership/possession of laptop;
  • Count 6 - Breach of CBO on or before 15/07/2020 - Failure to notify police of home address within 7 days of moving.

Tofangsazan was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for count 1. He was also sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for count 2 and six months’ imprisonment for counts 3-6; all sentences to run concurrently.
