Local police have dealt with groups breaking lockdown for a game of football in the park, and even fined street preachers for flouting the rules in a busy January period.

Met Police warned last week that in response to the third national lockdown they would be stepping up patrols and fining more rule flouters after a number of high-profile breaches, from parties to travelling walkers.

And Covid-19 infection rates have finally started to fall in all south east London boroughs.

But police are still reminding residents of the importance to honour the lockdown, and have dealt with some blatant and unusual breaches in recent weeks.

Most recently, Greenwich MPS were called to Charlton park to reports of football teams playing in Charlton Park.

The police force warned that "fines are being issued!!" They added that dedicated units are on duty daily attending these types of Covid-19 breaches.

Parks have reportedly getting increasingly busy, particularly popular destinations such as Greenwich and Danson parks, and residents and walkers are strongly advised to avoid the major parks.

Early last week, Greenwich Council reported that street preachers in were also caught out.

They were fined by police for breaking Covid-19 regulations.

However, following the sudden dash of snow hitting London over the weekend, Greenwich Police patrols have been visiting the major parks, and have reported successful social distancing.

Police said in one Tweet: "Officers on patrol at Greenwich park this morning great to see people out and about all observing social distance rules and in great mood despite the chilly weather.

"Remember:

- Stay at home

- Wear a mask

- Keep 2m apart"
