A primary school teacher in Lewisham has tragically died over Christmas after catching coronavirus.

Tributes have been paid to the "fantastic" Jan Docker, who worked at Stillness Junior School in Brockley Rise and was a "popular member of the team."

The school confirmed in a heartbreaking tribute that the teacher had passed away over the Christmas break, with a book of condolences due to be opened.

In a statement as part of the school's January newsletter, headteacher Mrs M Nichol said: "As you are aware, we tragically lost our dear colleague, Jan Docker, over the Christmas period to Covid-19.

"I would like to thank everyone for all the emails we have received offering condolences and appreciation for the huge amount of work and support Jan offered during her time here."

"She was a fantastic teacher who thought so much of the children and really gave her all to ensure they achieved their best Jan was a popular member of the team and will be greatly missed by us all.”

“Over the next week we will be opening a book of condolences for Jan that will be forwarded on to her family in due course.”

Stillness Junior School is a primary school located on Brockley Rise in Lewisham, SE23.
