A murder investigation has been launched in Croydon after a 30-year-old woman was repeatedly stabbed to death at an address in a residential road.

A man, thought to be in his 30s, who was found at the scene and hospitalised with injuries, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Officers were called to the address shortly after midnight on Saturday (December 12) to reports of a stabbing in Canning Road.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found two people suffering stab injuries.

The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed her next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination held at Croydon Mortuary on Saturday gave the cause of death as multiple stab wounds.

A Police spokesman said: "Officers from the Specialist Crime Command are investigating and believe both parties were known to each other.

"They are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

"Enquiries into the circumstances continue."
