Police are hunting for the driver of an Audi TT which smashed into a Tesco store and ATM machine in the early hours of this morning.

The Tesco Express store in Hale Lane, Edgware, is cordoned off by police and fire service after a crash which happened at around 6am (Monday).

Photos taken outside Tesco at around 10am showed the destruction caused by the crash with a cash machine completely destroyed.

The front of the Audi had also sustained serious damage to the front of its vehicle.

When police arrived, there was no sign of any driver.

It is also not clear whether the cash machine had been specifically targeted.

The scene was cordoned off by police tape and yellow tape meaning the Tesco store was also closed to customers.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 6.01am on Monday, 14 December to reports of a road traffic collision in Hale Lane, Edgware.

"Officers attended and it was reported that a car had collided with the outside of a commercial premises.

"Enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver and to establish the circumstances of the incident. There have been no arrests."
