Mental health charity Carlisle Eden Mind are launching an appeal for supporters to donate much-needed funds, as the "toughest" year it has ever had for fundraising draws to a close.

For the first time, the charity has partnered with The Big Give, a national organisation which helps to match fund every pound donated.

It is hoping to do what it can to respond to the impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on its fundraising activities.

Carlisle Eden Mind spokesman Michael Boaden said that like all charities, the local mental health organisation has suffered a downturn in its fundraising activities.

"Other income streams from our shops and training programme have been significantly affected," he said.

"All charities have suffered this year."

Alongside this drop in fundraising income, Carlisle Eden Mind is seeing a greater demand for its services, which have continued throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

The charity is hoping to be able to raise the much-needed funds to meet that need.

Mindline Cumbria, run by the charity on behalf of all the local Mind charities in Cumbria, continues to operate seven days per week, every day of the year.

It offers support, information and a listening ear for those who might be struggling with mental health issues.

However, it costs a significant amount to run.

In light of its fundraising challenges, Carlisle Eden Mind has launched its "Christmas Challenge".

For every pound donated, The Big Give will help the charity to match-fund, so that every person who donates will see their contribution double at no extra cost to themselves.

Mr Boaden added: "We know everybody is finding it tough at the moment but we hope this new way of boosting funds will encourage people to get involved.’

The Christmas Challenge will open for donations from this coming Tuesday, until Tuesday December 8 at 12pm.
