Hygiene is always important when picking out a restaurant, and given the current spread of Covid-19 across London and the world, never has it been more important.
With that in mind, we've compiled a list of the restaurants and cafes with the lowest food hygiene ratings in the two boroughs in south east London's currently worst affected by the virus.
The following list, reviewing restaurants in Bexley & Greenwich, was calculated on the Food Standards Agency's 0-5 tier system, and features all restaurants featuring on the agency's website listed under '0' or '1'.
Remarkably, Bexley only holds a handful of poorly rated sites compared to dozens in Greenwich.
To be as update to date as possible, the list only includes reviews since the beginning of 2019, up until November 22, 2020.
The agency says '0' ratings = "Urgent Improvement Necessary".
Inspectors from the agency who review food hygiene in restaurants to later apply the ratings check the following three elements:
- How hygienically the food is handled: how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
- The condition of the structure of the buildings: the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities
- How the business manages what it does to make sure food is safe and so that the officer can be confident standards will be maintained in the future
The below list of '0' and '1'-rated restaurants includes their listed address and the date of their last inspection by the Food Standards Agency.
