THE mother of missing Georgina Gharsallah has spoken of her heartbreak ahead of her 33rd birthday.

Mother-of-two Georgina disappeared near the centre of Worthing more than two years ago and has not been seen since.

Her mother Andrea, 58, will be holding an online vigil for her this evening.

She said: “It is about keeping her story out there all the time so people talk about it, they might know or hear something.

“It is the not knowing anything – it’s a rollercoaster because it doesn’t get better with time as some people say.

“There is no resolution and there is no closure.”

Georgina “vanished without a trace” on March 7, 2018, but the case was not upgraded to a murder investigation until August last year.

Her family claim Sussex Police “have admitted a number of key failings” in the case including lost CCTV, limited searches and a failure to put Georgina on the Interpol Watch List for more than 18 months.

Andrea, along with investigative journalist Donal Macintyre said the investigation suffered from a “substantial disservice” due to her “colour, race and class”.

Sussex Police strongly refute any suggestion of racial bias.

Andrea said: “This will be her third birthday that she won’t be with us, we did not expect to be this far down.

“We are doing an online vigil by Zoom, and we’re getting together with her sisters and her children to spend some time with each other to think about her, not that we don’t think about her every day.”

There is an open invitation to the online vigil, which starts at 7pm.

Anyone who would like to take part should join from 6.45pm

The meeting ID is 389 523 1682 and the passcode is 3FEZc4.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme said: “A birthday is a celebration which should be spent with family and friends and I cannot begin to think how difficult not only this day, but every day since she has been missing have been for those who know Georgina.

“Over the last two and a half years a dedicated team of officers and staff have been committed to looking into any viable lines of enquiry in the hope it will take us closer to finding out what happened to Georgina on that day.

“We are grateful to everyone who has made contact with us to report potential sightings and pieces of information on what could have happened. Sadly, none of these have helped us find Georgina and our investigation into the circumstances continues.”
