The rate of coronavirus infection in Epping Forest peaked above 100 cases per 100,000 residents before falling below again.

In the seven days to October 15 the rate of new Covid-19 infections rose above the 100 mark before new data released yesterday showed it had fallen.

Between October 9 and 16 – the most up-to-date accurate figures – 122 new cases were confirmed at an infection rate of 92.6 cases per 100,000 population.

The week before there had been 118 new cases in the district which has an approximate population of 120,000 – an infection rate of 89.6.

Data for the most recent four days (October 17-20) is not included as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

In Harlow, the rate of infection is steadily climbing.

In the seven days to October 16 there were 60 new lab-confirmed cases at a rate of 68.9, up from a rate of 58.6 (51 cases) the week prior.

The trust which runs Epping Forest and Harlow’s main hospital, The Princess Alexandra Hospital, has recorded four coronavirus deaths since September 23 (following four months without a death) with the latest on October 8.

The trust has reported 205 total Covid-related deaths.

Yesterday, NHS England announced a further 134 people who tested positive had died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals in England to 31,181.

Patients were aged between 36 and 100 years old. All except six (aged 68-91) had known underlying health conditions.
