A PANT teenager is taking on a huge cycling challenge to raise funds for a well-known Nepalese charity, which will see him cycle more than 67,000 metres in height.

Jools Brennan, who was set to travel to Nepal next year, is raising money for The Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT) with a challenge which will see him cycle the equivalent height of eight of Nepal’s tallest mountains.

Originally, Jools was fundraising for his trip to Nepal, and was preparing to donate a portion of funds raised to the GWT.

But now, he has decided to donate all funds raised from his challenge to the GWT.

He is preparing to cycle 67,035m in height, and is already on the way to that grand total after completing the Mount Everest leg of the challenge back in June, and the Kanchenjunga leg in July.

Jools is confident he will complete the challenge and hopes to raise just short of £1,000 in doing so.

He said: “During summer 2021, when I will be in my last year of sixth form, I will be taking part in Global Action's Nepal Annapurna Program.

“Nepal is incredibly diverse, from the World Heritage palaces of Kathmandu to the world-famous Annapurna National Park.

“While in Nepal I will be involved in a poverty reduction project, working with charities and families to build schools, clean water and sanitation systems which will reduce illness and disease and increase school attendance.

“I will also visit the UK Gurkha Welfare Trust and will be making a financial contribution to the trust which supports retired Gurkhas, provides medical camps, disaster relief and healthcare to Gurkha pensioners and supports Gurkha veterans in residential homes.

“I will be making a financial contribution to the trust which supports retired Gurkhas, provides medical camps, disaster relief and healthcare to pensioners and supports veterans in residential homes.

“My aim is to raise at least £800 for The GWT. To do this I will cycle the equivalent height of the eight mountains in Nepal above 8,000 meters, over an eight-month period. This is a total ascent of 67,035 metres.

“I started with Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga – having replaced inner tubes several times, had a new tyre and a new gear cable I have now almost completed my third peak, Lhotse'.”
