ALMOST £250,000 is being spent on repairs to the roof at Darwen Town Hall.

Blackburn with Darwen Council picked Complete Roofing Systems as the successful contractor to repair the town hall and two other tenders were considered.

Cllr Phil Riley, who is the lead for regeneration at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “Darwen Town Hall is a very impressive building and it is very important that we keep it as functional as possible.

“Clearly we need to spend some money to ensure that the roof is in a good condition.

“Everybody can appreciate it is an important building and we have created the town square looking great and the town hall is a heritage building and need to keep it in that state.” The cost of the repairs will be £227,375.

Cllr Roy Davies, who represents Darwen East on Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “I can understand both sides of the argument where something has to be done about the roof while I also wonder if money could be helping reduce Covid."
