A sixth form student has tested positive with coronavirus at Glenthorne High School.

Parents and carers were informed yesterday evening that a Year 13 student had a confirmed case of Covid-19.

In an email sent to parents on September 17, head teacher Stephen Hume's said that only a "small number" of students had come into contact with the infected person.

Only those who were in close proximity with the student will be made to self-isolate for 14 days.

In the email, as seen by Sutton Guardian, Mr Hume said: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a single confirmed case of Covid-19 with a Year 13 student at the school.

"We know that you may find this concerning but are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"The small number of students who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case will have received an individual letter and will be self-isolating for 14 days.

"We have been very cautious and contacted anyone who we know to have been in the same room as the student.

"If you do not receive an individual email then your son/daughter has not been in close contact with the student and your child should continue to attend school as normal.

"The areas the student was in are currently being deep cleaned - a process which will be completed today."
