A primary school in Sutton has confirmed that a member of the "school community" has tested positive for coronavirus.

Devonshire Primary School instructed their entire Year 2 to stay home after a confirmed case last week.

On September 9, parents were informed that their children had been in "close contact" with the person infected.

Headteacher Fiona Oastler informed parents that their children must self-isolate until September 22.

It was not confirmed whether the virus was contracted by a member of staff or a pupil.

Headteacher Fiona Oastler said: "We have been advised that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school community and have been working closely with Public Health England.

"We have followed their guidance and have identified that your child has been in close contact with the affected individual.

"As a result, we are closing the Year 2 bubble and all Year 2 children will be required to self-isolate.

"No Year 2 will be allowed on-site until Tuesday, September 22.

"This is to reduce the further spread of Covid-19 to others in the community.

"If your child is well at the end of the isolation period, then they can return to school.

"Other members of your household can continue normal activities provided your child does not develop symptoms within the self-isolation period.

"If you have children in other year groups they can come into school as long as your Year 2 child does not come on to the school site."
