A feel-good display of 'community spirit and heartfelt gratitude' has gone on display across Greenwich this week with the 'Resident's Rainbow'.

For the last few eeeks, residents have been sending in their messages of thanks and wishes for the future onto colourful ribbons which have now been transformed into technicoloured light installations sharing resident's messages.

The community artwork has now been hung on 'wishing trees', and put on display in eight locations across the borough.

Each area has been lit and decorated in ribbons from one single colour, but this weekend, the colours and lights will be exchanged between areas, making each part of the borough a rainbow of messages from across communities.

The Royal Greenwich Residents' Rainbow can be seen in Abbey Wood, Blackheath, Charlton, Eltham, Greenwich, Plumstead, Thamesmead and Woolwich.

Cllr Danny Thorpe, leader of Greenwich Council, said: "The Royal Greenwich Residents’ Rainbow is a visual display of the truly impressive community spirit we've seen over the last few months.

"There is still work to be done to put an end to this terrible pandemic, but it’s important for us to stay positive about the future."

Cllr Thorpe added that he was "so proud of how Royal Greenwich has come together, across communities, to support each other during this difficult time and to read some of the hundreds of messages residents have send in for our Residents’ Rainbow is heart-warming."

"If you get chance, go and see the wishing trees and read lovely messages of hope and gratitude on the ribbons.”

As well as the ribbons and light installations, some community groups and even businesses are also taking part, so look out for displays in shop windows and so on.

To round off the month-long celebrations, a spectacular laser light display will take place on Saturday 26 September which will be seen across the borough.
